Film producer calls for cash deal

The States could stipulate filming was done in the island
A UK film producer is urging Guernsey politicians to give cash incentives to encourage film-makers to the island.

Kenny Reid from 14-26 Films is planning to shoot a psychological thriller in the island.

He is having to find sponsorship for the project and believes subsidies similar to those given in the Isle of Man would encourage more business.

Mr Reid says by putting money into the film industry, the States would be investing in the island.

He said: "It needs the backing of the ministers who will say they will earmark cash for the film industry.

"Like the Isle of Man, they can quite easily turn round and say they will provide the cash on condition it's spent on the island."

The Isle of Man government will provide 25% of a film's budget if at least 50% of the filming is carried out in the island.

Mr Reid, who has been in the island to meet with members of the Guernsey Film Commission, says he has already received some calls from residents offering cars and props for the film, which is to be called Sunstroke.

He is also hoping to discuss funding with the Bailiwick's Arts Council.
