A medieval wall painting uncovered at Jersey's Mont Orgueil Castle should be open to the public this summer.
The painting was uncovered in the Medieval Great Hall by archaeologists working on the restoration of parts of the castle.
Dr Warwick Rodwell, who is in charge of the work, said the painting was discovered under layers of emulsion and cement.
He said it was "remarkable" it had survived for so long.
Dr Rodwell said: "The hall had been cut up into several rooms, it had had chimney stacks, fireplaces, bread ovens built in it and all this, of course, later taken out.
"Then the Germans divided it up during the war.
"So, the fact that anything has survived after all this change and replastering is remarkable, and we are delighted to have found it."
