The Czech capital, Prague, saw violent clashes on Tuesday as anti-globalisation demonstrators tried to disrupt the annual meetings of the IMF/World Bank.

The demonstration started peacefully

Anarchists carried distinctive black flags

The hammer and sickle were much in evidence - as were masks

Police stopped protesters reaching the conference centre via the Nuselsky bridge

But there were ugly scenes at several flashpoints

Demonstrators attacked police with stones and "Molotov cocktails"

Police fired tear gas and water cannon in response
