Volcanic ash cloud thought to be thinning slightly

Travellers in Europe may get some respite from disruption caused by the cloud of volcanic ash blowing across the continent from Iceland.

The ash cloud is said to be thinning slightly, while forecasters say a north-easterly wind over Iceland should help on Monday.

But transatlantic flights are still being forced to fly around or over the cloud, causing lengthy delays, and the volcano is continuing to erupt.

Bill Hayton reports.
