A senior Russian scientist who had been working as a consultant for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi has fled Russia after warning there could be a series of disasters because of the way the facilities are being built.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC, the scientist Sergei Volkov said he had gone into hiding in Ukraine because he feared being arrested after refusing to keep quiet about his concerns.
A spokeswoman for the Olympic construction company said everything was being built in line with international standards.
