Serb police raid Otpor premises

Serbian police have raided the Belgrade premises of the student movement, Otpor, which is a key part of the opposition to President Slobodan Milosevic.

They entered the building without showing identity cards or a search warrant and took away computers and publicity material for the presidential and parliamentary elections later this month in Yugoslavia.

A raid was also reported on the group's offices in the town of Mladenovac, south of the capital.

The BBC Belgrade correspondent says the Serbian authorities have, in recent months, stepped up their action against Otpor, which they describe as a terrorist organisation.

Otpor says the growing repression shows that the authorities are feeling increasingly threatened by the opposition election campaign -- recent opinion polls suggest that the ruling coalition is trailing badly.
