Fresh clashes break out between demonstrators and police in Athens during a protest outside parliament against government austerity measures.

Protesters charged police who responded by firing volleys of tear gas to disperse the crowds.

During the clashes, the leader of Greece's biggest union, Yannis Panagopoulos was attacked as he addressed the demonstration.

The Greek government has approved a new package of tax increases and spending cuts to save 4.8bn euros ($6.5bn; £4.4bn) and ease its budget crisis.
