EU foreign head dismisses critics

EU decision 'solves Rubik's cube'

The EC president has presented the Swedish prime minister with a Rubik's cube to congratulate him on solving the puzzle of gaining consensus on new EU appointments.

Jose Manuel Barroso made the gesture to Fredrik Reinfeldt after it was announced that Belgian Prime Minister, Herman van Rompuy, will be the first permanent European Council President.

The other top job created by the Lisbon Treaty - foreign affairs supremo - will go to the EU Trade Commissioner, Baroness Catherine Ashton from the UK.
