German Chancellor Angela Merkel has joined ex-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former Polish President, Lech Walesa, in a walk across a former Berlin checkpoint.

The Bornholmer Bridge was the first crossing to open 20 years ago, after weeks of pro-democracy protests.
