The rise of the Turkish bath

If you are a lover of spas, steam baths and saunas, then a visit to Istanbul would not be complete without a trip to a Turkish bath.

Although hundreds were built in the heyday of the Ottoman Empire they went out of fashion in the modern era.

But the boom in tourism has brought Ottoman style back into vogue, along with the baths.
