The new minister responsible for public order and citizens' protection in Athens has admitted that the national police force has lost the confidence of the Greek people.
Michalis Chryssohoidis has pledged to crack down on violent officers and to introduce new police training methods.
He has also ordered an inquiry into allegations that a young immigrant died after being beaten and tortured in an Athens police station.
