Remembering the start of WWII

Poland has been holding a day of commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.

A pre-dawn service on Westerplatte peninsula near Gdansk was timed to match the moment a German battleship fired the first shots on a Polish fort in 1939.

Following this, World leaders gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony, during which they laid candles.
