Genoa G8 riots in 2001

The 2009 G8 summit is being held in the Italian town of L'Aquila.

It is the first time the summit has been held in Italy since Genoa in 2001, when violent street clashes broke out between anti-globalisation protesters and police, leaving many people injured on both sides.

Thirteen police officers were convicted in 2008 in connection with attacks on defenceless demonstrators at the Diaz School in Genoa.

These are some of the pictures filmed during the three days of rioting.
