French intruders destroy GM plants

The national agricultural institute in France says an unidentified group has broken into a government research laboratory near Toulouse and destroyed genetically modified plants being studied there.

The intruders are reported to have left leaflets claiming to be part of a previoiusly unknown group.

The attack comes amid renewed concern in France over the sowing of crops containing genetically modified organisms, GMOs. The recent revelation that French famers were sold rapeseed and maize seed accidentally contaminated by GMOs provoked anger among environmental groups.
