Rescue workers are searching for three people believed to be missing after a building collapsed in the German city of Cologne, officials have said.

Six other people initially also thought to be missing have contacted city officials, police said.

The six-storey historical archive building collapsed into a pile of rubble bringing down buildings either side.

Authorities have not confirmed why the building collapsed, but reports from German media suggest it was caused by work on an underground train line.
