Bids for Gaultier's Christmas tree

Louis Vuitton, Cacharel, Norman Foster, Versace and Jean-Paul Gaultier were among the designers who created Christmas trees that were auctioned off for charity in Paris.

Famous designers were asked to imagine and create a piece of art with the help of young architects.

They were displayed opposite the Eiffel Tower and despite the global recession, the event raised the largest amount of money ever in its 12 year history.

About 100,000 euros or £103,000 will go to an association which cares for families and children hit by AIDS and HIV.
