The British pop star, George Michael, has spoken publicly for the first time, following his arrest last Wednesday in Los Angeles for an allegedly lewd act in a public lavatory.

In an interview for American television CNN he said he had put himself in an extremely stupid and vulnerable position.

He said he'd committed similar reckless acts in the past, and apologised to his fans for the incident.
