Clinton's Europe itinerary
![]() Bill Clinton is on what may be his last official trip to Europe as US president. Trace his journey in the itinerary below - updated throughout the trip.
Tuesday 30 May
It is the first official visit to Portugal by a serving US president for 15 years. The first day of the trip is dominated by bilateral talks with Prime Minister Antonio Guterres on European security, East Timor and Africa.
Wednesday 31 May EU-US summit in Queluz, Portugal. Talks focus on maintaining stability in south-east Europe, on the international fight against terrorism in cyberspace, and on new efforts to prevent the spread of HIV and Aids. Trade dispute between the US and Europe continues, especially about hormone-treated beef and banana exports.
Thursday 1 June Meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to discuss Middle East peace process and last week's withdrawal from Southern Lebanon. Flies to Berlin. Meets President Johannes Rau and Prime Minister Schröder.
Friday 2 June
Berlin: Summit on "The Third Way", convened by Prime Minister Schröder. Also attended by leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Britain, Chile, France, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, and Portugal.
Saturday 3 June "Third Way" summit ends with 14 centre-left leaders calling for market economies to be socially responsible. Flies to Moscow for first full meeting with the newly-installed Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sunday 4 June
But there is no agreement on US plans for "Son of Star Wars" anti-missile defence system.
Monday 5 June Addresses Russian Duma. Visits former President Yeltsin. Flies to Ukranian capital, Kiev, for meeting with President Kuchma.
