British composer wins Masterprize competition

A young British composer, Andrew March, has won the first-ever Masterprize competition for a new short symphonic work.

The award was made at the end of a concert at the Barbican in London during which works by six international finalists were performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and broadcast live by the BBC World Service.

March's winning composition, "Marine - A Travers les Arbres" was inspired by two paintings by the French impressionist, Renoir.
