As part of the BBC's season looking at sustainable food, we take a peek in the fridges of people in cities around the world and ask what motivates their food choices.
Laurent Perea is a consultant and Jeanne Colle an artist. They live in Asnieres-sur-Seine, France.
Contents: Lemons, apples, oranges, clementines, pomegranates, jam, olives, almonds, chestnuts, pickles, onions, garlic, milk, yoghurt, tofu, cottage cheese, bacon, salad, port, frozen red fruits; processed food: pasta, pizza, crab, fruit juice.
Origin: Most of the fresh fruit, the vegetables, dairy produce and the bacon were sourced from France. The citrus fruit were from Spain, Morocco and Italy. The salad and frozen red fruits were from Belgium and the tofu from Japan.
Laurent:
We pay attention to the packaging, and try to buy produce that's not too wrapped. We take note of where the produce comes from, to make sure that it hasn't travelled too far. However, we aren't always given the information we need, especially with processed food.

FRIDGE SECRETS

In our fridge we've got products such as pasta, crab and salad, but we don't know where the ingredients came from. We like organic products, although they're fairly expensive. We hope that producers do what they can to ensure their farming is sustainable.
We try to buy fruit and vegetables that are in season. For example, we wouldn't buy tomatoes out of season - not only are they expensive, but they're no good. Generally, products that are transported by plane are a lot more expensive, so we try to avoid them. But here in the freezer we've got a packet of frozen red fruits from Belgium. The energy costs are fairly expensive, so that's not too ecological.

Jeanne:
We sometimes have fruit and vegetables from friends or relatives who grow them in their gardens. Near where my parents live in Seine-et-Marne, near Paris, there are farms where you can pick your own produce, such as apples and strawberries. OK, you've got to go there, but it's a pleasure to pick your own. We go on holiday by car to Spain where Laurent's grandparents live, and bring back almonds, olives and pomegranates. From Montpellier, we bring back pomegranates and jam made by Laurent's mother - mine makes it too.
