Romanian mourners killed by lorry
Map of Romania
Five people were killed and seven wounded in Romania when a lorry hit a funeral procession in pouring rain, police have said.

The incident happened near the town of Cluj, in central-western Romania.

Police said the driver, aged 55, lost control on a bend in the road and hit the funeral cortege. Three of those hurt are in a serious condition.

Romania has one of the worst road safety records in Europe, with nearly 2,500 killed in accidents in 2006.

"Five people were caught under the truck," Colonel Dorin Ungur of the emergencies situations inspectorate in Cluj was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.

In July, eight people were killed and 25 wounded when a bus full of people returning from a wedding was hit by a train on a level crossing in Romania.
