US soldier shot in Kosovo

us soldiers/file US soldiers form part of the Kosovo peacekeeping force

A US peacekeeping soldier has been shot and wounded while on duty in Kosovo.

Kosovo: Special Report
The soldier was shot in the leg on Friday while on guard duty at Camp Montieth in the US-controlled town of Gnjilane in the south of the province.

A Nato statement said the soldier was recovering at a US military clinic at Camp Bondsteel, 35 km (20 miles) south of Monteith.

Investigators were looking into whether the soldier accidentally shot himself, the army said.

He was reported to be in a stable condition.

In a separate incident on Friday, three Kosovo Albanians were arrested after shooting in the direction of Norwegian peacekeepers near Obilic, north of the provincial capital, Pristina. No one was hurt in the shooting.

And a Russian military vehicle was struck after driving over dynamite buried in the road near Glogovac in central Kosovo.

There were no injuries from the explosion but the vehicle was badly damaged.
