In pictures: Sistine glory

It took 20 years to restore some of the world's most famous and precious frescoes in the Sistine Chapel - the place where popes are traditionally elected. Below are views of some of those incredible Vatican works.

One of the most famous scenes in art - La Crezione (The Creation) by Michelangelo

Passaggio Del Mar Rosso (Crossing the Red Sea) by Biagio d'Antonio

Viaggio Di Mose' in Egitto (Moses' voyage to Egypt) by Pietro Perugino

Vocazione dei Primi Apostoli (Vocation of the First Apostles)

Restoration of the side panels follows that of Michelangelo's frescoes on the chapel vault and behind the altar.

Detail from Prove di Mose by Sandro Boticelli
