UN Cyprus talks to go ahead
The Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash, says that he will now attend United Nations-sponsored talks on the future of the divided island of Cyprus, after earlier casting doubt on his participation.
Mr Denktash had previously said that the invitation to the Turkish Cypriot side was not acceptable in its present form.
The UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, announced on Sunday that indirect talks between Mr Denktash and the President of Cyprus, Glafkos Clerides would resume in New York early next month.
The discussions will lay the groundwork for negotiations aimed at ending the twenty-five-year long dispute. The last round of talks on Cyprus broke down two years ago.
