Stringfellow's Irish club closes
Peter Stringfellow
Mr Stringfellow said he would consider opening another Dublin nightclub
Campaigners against the Stringfellows nightclub in Dublin have welcomed the decision to close the club.

They had been picketing the premises in the Parnell Street area since it opened last February.

The club said it was running at a loss and that delays in opening had cost it "the lucrative Christmas trade".

Protests had also damaged business. The club was operated by a company under a licence issued by Peter Stringfellow.

He said he would consider opening another nightclub in Dublin in the future.

One of the protest leaders, Vera Brady, said she was "over the moon" at the closure.

"It is a glorified strip club and I didn't want a strip club in my area," she told BBC News on Monday.

"Parnell Street is one of the main streets in the capital."

Peter Stringfellow operates a number of nightclubs in London and Paris.
