The Inter Milan striker got a glimpse of the post-war landscape through the gun port of an Italian helicopter.

Ronaldo is used to adoring fans, but his security arrangements rarely run to the armoured car he was given in the southern Kosovan city of Djakovica.

He was given a hero's welcome from the ethnic Albanian crowd as he prepared to hand over a donation to a local school damaged in the conflict.

One young fan was delighted to meet the star.

Admirers climbed the trees around the school to catch a glimpse of the Brazilian.

A tiring day: Ronaldo grabbed some sleep on his father's shoulder.
