German customs have disclosed that a French woman has been detained for trying to smuggle thirteen hundred large bird spiders from Mexico through Frankfurt airport in her luggage.

More than one hundred of the hairy spiders, were dead.

The consignment was said to be worth about one-hundred and forty thousand dollars, and customs officers said they suspected it was part of a professional smuggling operation.

The unnamed woman could face three years in jail.
