European Union officials have given their support to efforts by Montenegro's pro-Western government to revise its relations with Serbia -- its bigger partner in the Yugoslav federation.
A statement issued after a meeting in Finland -- which currently holds the presidency of the European Union -- expressed understanding for Montenegro's position.
Montenegrin officials last month began talks with Belgrade aimed at acquiring more autonomy.
They want to transform the Serb-dominated federation into a loose confederation of equals, but their proposals have been dismissed by Belgrade.
