Switzerland has announced plans to send two-thousand cows and calves to Kosovo to help replenish the stock of animals in the province.

The Swiss foreign ministry said the conflict in Kosovo had left many farmers with no livestock or reduced herds and quick action was needed to re-stock farms and restore local milk production before winter arrived.

The agriculture ministry and the Swiss foreign relief agency plan to start shipping the animals next month.
