Is there anyone who can help with news of the Kartal area of Istanbul and Erdek. My family has just returned from these areas and we are very worried about the Turkish family that we stayed with. I managed to get through on the telephone at 3am on Wednesday but the line was bad and I could not fully understand the situation. If anyone has any links to Kartal or Erdek please respond. If there are people who want me to reassure friends and relatives in England let me know I will be very happy to pass on messages. I do not speak Turkish but at the present time this is a minor difficulty which I am sure we can overcome. My families thoughts are with you.
So sorry to hear of
Earthquake. Is there
anything Amateur
Radio people can
do? Might help locating
friends & family.
We are praying for You.

As has been reported, the earthquake is a catastrophe of epic proportions. It is extremely unfortunate; the tragedy people are going through cannot be adequately explained- it is the proverbial worst nightmare. I actually had just returned home to Istanbul hours earlier- fortunately my wife and two young children stayed back in Connecticut. Personally, I was startled and disoriented when awaken by the tremendous shaking / rattling. Fortunately, I (and our home) is unharmed. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many of my colleagues, that have suffered losses.
Having lived through the Latur earthquake in India I can comprehend the
suffering of the people in Turkey.
We will mobilise all help possible from here. God bless you and give you
strength to withstand this tragedy.
I have been given the following web address as a bulletin board/information service.
http://www.turkishfamily.homepage.com
Many of my own friends are missing; please share whatever information you have.

Looking for:
The first thing that came to my mind was my sister in Istanbul. I tried to call her house so many times, you can't imagine how it feels like. No connection, phones do not work, and you can't do anything at all. She called me yesterday through her cell phone, now I am relieved but how about the others? Can you imagine those people under the ruins waiting for someone to get them out? I would like all countries to help those people, it can happen to anyone. It seems to me that the earthquakes are moving towards Europe somehow. There was one in Iran couple of months ago and then in Adana in southern Turkey, now in Istanbul. Can someone explain what is going on?

to rise. If you have any more info in these regions, please let me know.
