Big anti-Milosevic rally in Belgrade

More than one-hundred-thousand people have been attending a rally in Belgrade against President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia.

Organisers demanded Mr Milosevic's resignation within two weeks.

In a dramatic development, the controversial opposition leader, Vuk Draskovic, addressed the rally despite having earlier withdrawn as a speaker.

The BBC Belgrade correspondent says the mood was electric, with the protestors chanting, 'We want Vuk'.

But in a sign of continuing opposition splits, Mr Draskovic's speech was sometimes drowned by boos.

The Belgrade rally was the culmination of a series around the country.

President Milosevic's Socialist Party earlier revealed plans for early general elections, in an apparent move to diminish support for the opposition.
