Worst affected places are Golcuk, Izmit, Adapazari, Yalova, Cinarcik Istanbul had about 500 fatalities mainly in Avcilar area (west of the main airport) but rescue efforts are under control. Very Important!!!!! GOLCUK, IZMIT, YALOVA, ADAPAZARI NEEDS URGENT HELP ESPECIALLY SPECIALISED RESCUE PERSONNEL WITH EQUIPMENT TO REMOVE HEAVY PIECES. Turkish authorities are overwelmed by the scale of the disaster. People need expert help. There are still people who are alive under the wreckages. Thanks
Koray, Turkey

My brother and his wife live in Izmit thankfully they are safe and well. If there is anyone who wish to contact their relatives in Izmit area please give their names, adresses and telephone numbers so that I can ask them to try to contact them. My best wishes to you all.

My family is located just west of Golcuk, a small village named Halidere, there is not word from here yet. It is directly across from the burning refinery. If any one hears of the FIROL family please email us, we are very upset and worried. There are 12 members of the immediate family.
1. Zelkif Firol-father
2. Nurcan Firol-mother
3. Ozlem Firol-sister-age 21
4. Gulcan Firol-sister-age 19
5. Umit Firol-sister-age 17
6. Yucel Firol-his wife and daughter in Golcuk
7. Senol Firol-wife and two daughters.
Any word would be helpful the not knowing is the worst. It's possible that Senol Firol is working on the tug boat at the refinery, this is his normal jobsite, we just don't know if he was working the night of the earthquake. Thank you BBC for any help you can give.

Please pls pls do not create panic. Spread the news that except Avcilar and surrounding areas, Istanbul is Intact = all locals and visitors are ok. Please try to make this clear because I read from the message boards that an unnecessary preoccupation and anxiety is being created and causing the people with relatives and friends visiting Turkey worry in vain .

There is no damage at all in these cities...
for those who are in search of their beloved who live in Istanbul, you can mostly be sure that there is no damage in the areas where the telephone codes start with +90 216... I wish I could give info about other cities however the rescue efforts are still going on there... If it is going to be any help the rescue teams are still getting alive people out of the debris... Keep your hopes and prayers
