Swede re-enacts Bleriot cross-Channel flight

A Swedish airline pilot has marked the ninetieth anniversary of the first-ever flight across the English Channel by the French aviator, Louis Bleriot, by re-enacting the crossing in a replica plane.

Bleriot flew from Les Barraques in France to Dover in England in forty minutes.

The Swedish pilot, Mikael Carlson, completed his journey seven minutes faster in a copy of the original Bleriot Eleven plane, which he built himself.

Bleriot's grandson failed to duplicate the crossing last year when his replica plane plunged into a lake shortly after take-off.
