The supermarket chain, Sainsbury's, has become the first major food retailer in Britain to eliminate all genetically modified ingredients from its own brand products.

The company has asked more than a thousand of its suppliers to replace GM ingredients with non-GM alternatives and all new products will be GM-free in future .

The BBC environment correspondent says nearly all the other major British supermarkets and food producers are in the process of trying to do the same.
