France suspends gay wedding mayor
The maverick mayor who conducted France's first gay marriage has been suspended for a month, the French Interior Ministry has said.

Noel Mamere defied government warnings that he would be breaking the law when he wed two men in the town of Begles, where he is mayor, last month.

Justice Minister Dominique Perben has declared the wedding invalid.

Newlyweds Stephane Chapin and Bertrand Charpentier have been summoned to a court hearing on the matter this month.
