Yugoslav account of NATO losses

The Yugoslav armed forces have given an account of what they say are NATO's losses since the Alliance began its campaign against Yugoslavia five weeks ago.

In an interview with a Belgrade-based newspaper , the Chief-of-Staff, General Dragoljub Oidanic, said NATO had so far lost forty-six aircraft and six helicopters.

He also said the Yugoslav army had shot down eight pilotless aircraft and more than one-hundred-and-eighty cruise missiles.

The General said that despite its huge technical superiority, NATO had failed to inflict military and moral defeat on Yugoslavia.

NATO itself says it has lost a single stealth bomber near Belgrade and an Apache helicopter in Albania, both without loss of life.
