Charges mount against PKK leader

Turkish prosecutors have submitted details of more charges against the Kurdish separatist leader, Abdullah Ocalan, who is awaiting trial for treason.

The new charges -- in a one-hundred-and-thirty-nine-page indictment alleging murder, extortion and separatist activity -- are to be considered on Friday by the one military and two civilian judges who are expected to hear the full case next month.

Prosecutors have already demanded that Mr Ocalan be executed for separatist killings and terrorist acts alleged to have been carried out by his group, the PKK. Mr Ocalan has been held in a high-security prison near Istanbul since he was arrested in February under an international warrant.
