Western resolve to track down Kosovo war criminals

The British Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook, has promised that Britain will do all it can to bring to justice those responsible for atrocities in Kosovo.

Mr Cook was speaking in London, alongside the Chief United Nations War Crimes Prosecutor, Louise Arbour.

He said those who'd turned Kosovo into a slaughterhouse should be prosecuted.

He referred to Yugoslavia's campaign against ethnic Albanians in the province as President Milosevic's final solution.

He said Britain would hand all information it had gathered on the perpetrators to war crimes investigators.

Mrs Arbour appealed to all states to make such material -- including usually secret intelligence material -- available to the Tribunal.

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has repeated the resolve of Britain and NATO to continue operations against Yugoslavia until Mr Milosevic complies with western demands. NATO is demanding that Mr Milosevic withdraw all security forces from Kosovo, accept the deployment of an international force, and allow all refugees to return.

Mr Blair was speaking in Brussels after talks with NATO commanders and the Secretary-General of the Alliance, Javier Solana.
