In Britain, a black musician who was allegedly beaten up twice by police officers and then falsely prosecuted, has been awarded thirty-thousand pounds -- to be paid by the Greater Manchester Police force in north-west England.
Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Ellison had initiated legal proceedings, claiming that the officers called him a black bastard; and kicked, battered and kneed him.
The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester police recently admitted that there was institutionalised racism within his force.
But a statement from the force pointed out that the financial settlement was reached without any acceptance of liability.
