Island suffers power cut

Hundreds of homes had to do without electricity
Homes and businesses all over Guernsey have been hit by a power cut.

Hundreds of homes had to do without electricity for a short period of time after the power went off at 0920 on Wednesday.

Traffic lights were knocked out, causing big queues at several junctions leading into St Peter Port.

Businesses with their own generators managed to keep working but it is feared some computer memories may have been affected.

Guernsey Electricity has confirmed the power cut was island-wide and also hit Jersey.

Engineers are now trying to establish how it happened.
