Friday, April 9, 1999 Published at 22:25 GMT 23:25 UK World: Europe Top US-Russia talks on Kosovo The American and Russian foreign ministers plan to meet to discuss Kosovo after President Yeltsin's warning to NATO that its military campaign against Yugoslavia risked provoking a wider conflict. The two ministers Madeleine Albright and Igor Ivanov will meet in Norway on Tuesday. Both sides say they'll be reviewing their relations and looking at how to settle the situation in Kosovo. Earlier President Yeltsin said Russia could not allow NATO to seize Yugoslavia and turn Kosovo into a protectorate by sending in ground troops. The Americans said they'd been assured at a high level that Russia would not get involved in the conflict. A BBC correspondent in Washington says the Clinton administration always knew its relationship with Russia would be harmed by action against Belgrade, but American officials must be concerned at the strength and duration of Moscow's anger.
