London says farewell to the Royal Yacht

Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales are holding a farewell lunch aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia today as the yacht pays her final visit to the Port of London.

Thousands of people lined the River Thames yesterday as Britannia made her last journey up the river.

After a week of official events, the yacht will set off for Portsmouth, where she will be decommissioned in December.

Last month, the Defence Secretary, George Robertson, announced that the forty-four-year-old Britannia would be neither refurbished nor replaced.
