Financial crime officers seek help
Money
Workload has increased trying to enforce sanctions against Iraq
Concerns that Jersey police officers investigating financial crime are overworked are to be dealt with by the island's main policy-making committee.

But it is doubtful the Financial Crimes Unit will get any help, given current spending constraints.

The unit investigates allegations of financial crime.

It claims its workload has increased dramatically, especially with enforcing financial sanctions against Iraq.

Spending cutbacks

The problem is now being looked at by the Policy and Resources Committee.

Committee president, Senator Frank Walker, said it was important to keep Jersey's finance industry well-policed.

But he said it was unlikely any extra resources could be spared at a time when States departments were being told to cut back on spending.

The issue is due to be discussed by the Policy and Resources Committee on 1 May.
