Jersey Heritage Trust wants to redevelop Gorey Castle

A Jersey politician has refused to admit defeat over Mont Orgueil castle.
Despite losing a vote in the States, Deputy Roy Le Herissier said the debate raised important issues.
He wanted the States to appoint an independent expert to outline the differences between the Jersey Heritage Trust - which has plans to redevelop Gorey Castle - and the Friends of Mont Orgueil, which has reservations about the proposals.
The odds were heavily stacked against Deputy Le Herissier, as four committees were against his proposal.
Though his motion was narrowly defeated, Deputy Le Herissier said he thought the debate would make a difference.
The process is due to continue in June, with the Environment and Public Services Committee inviting open submissions on the Trust's proposals from all parties.
