Low-cost blow to Jersey airport

The cash is likely to be directed to existing airlines
Low cost airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet are unlikely to be attracted to Jersey, despite £1m of taxpayers money being ploughed into the airport.

Landing fees might be reduced
As BBC Radio Jersey revealed earlier this week, the money has been obtained by the island's Airport Task Force to stop the decline in passenger numbers.

But it has been revealed the cash is more likely to help existing carriers than the pioneers of low cost air travel.

Deputy Philip Ozouf, who heads the task force, says the principal aim of the money is to arrest declining passenger numbers.

He says the cash might be used to reduce landing fees, or help with marketing, or may even be lent to existing carriers.
