In pictures: Election celebrations in Turkey
With most of the votes counted in Turkey's general election, the Islamist based newly-founded AK Party (Justice and Development) appears to have won a landslide victory, sweeping the ruling coalition from power.
AK leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan told cheering supporters their victory was on behalf of the Turkish people
Mr Erdogan said his party would adhere to the secular principles of the country's constitution
Crowds gathered outside the headquarters of the AK Party on news of their victory
Inside the party's offices, members celebrated the overall majority the party looks set to have in parliament
The frail outgoing Prime Minister, Bulent Ecevit, conceded defeat - his party won only 1% of the vote
But Mr Erdogan faces legal hurdles which block him from taking over from Mr Ecevit
The AK's success will give Turkey its first non-coalition government for many years
