Diego Alvares was one of the unlucky ones
There were plenty of thrills and spills when waiters from all over Spain took part in the eighth annual National Waiters Race.

About 160 waiters and two waitresses competed in the event in Barcelona, racing 100 metres while carrying a tray with two glasses of beer plus a full bottle.

Crowds lined the course to cheer on their favourite competitors.

Despite the best efforts, lots of trays were dropped and glasses and lager spilled all over the concrete.

The winner was Jose Luis Soria, of nearby Tarragona, who set a record time of 13.96 seconds.

He earned himself the first prize of 600 euros ($592) and a trip for two to Hong Kong.
