Jakob von Metzler
Jakob is survived by a brother and sister
The father of murdered 11-year-old Jakob von Metzler is one of Germany's best-known philanthropists as well as the head of one of its oldest banks.

Friedrich von Metzler donates millions every year to the arts, supporting such institutions as the Frankfurt design museum and the city's avant-garde Theater am Turm.

Friedrich von Metzler's bank dates back to 1674
His money also goes into funding an academic exchange programme between the University of Frankfurt and the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia.

The Metzler Bank, based in Germany's financial capital, is now into its 11th generation under family ownership.

It was founded in Frankfurt in 1674 by Benjamin Metzler, a pastor's son from the Vogtland region, and now has offices in Munich, Stuttgart, Los Angeles, Seattle, Tokyo, New York and Dublin.

Friedrich von Metzler and his wife Silvia also have a 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter.
