Couple arrested over spy cameras
Surveillance camera
Surveillance cameras were hidden all over the flat
French police have arrested a couple who had placed 17 hidden cameras in the flat which they rented out.

The couple - from a coastal town near Perpignan in the south of France - are said to have kept videos recordings of their tenants over a period of several months.

It appears that a series of tenants lived in the flat in Banyuls Sur Mer before the hidden cameras were discovered.

The owners - who are said to be in their 60's - had placed them in various nooks and crannies, including the bathroom and the toilet.

Found out

The bizarre scheme was uncovered about a month ago when a tenant noticed a strange crack in the ceiling panels as he was taking a shower.

He removed the tiles and discovered a hidden camera.

The tenant, who was working in a local restaurant for the summer, alerted the police.

Officers are reported to have seized a number of video cassettes from the couple, chronicling the lives of the people who had stayed in their flat.

So far, the authorities have refrained from commenting on what the couple's motives may have been.
