In pictures: Sand sculptures
More than 70 artists from around the world are behind the images of historical figures and replicas of landmarks that make up Sand World in Luebeck-Travemuende, northern Germany. The festival is held to honour the 200th anniversary of the Travemuende seaside resort.
The Luebeck church is among the most impressive sculptures
Historical figures, such as Emperor Karl IV, are the focus of the exhibit
US artist Daniel Clover carves the head of German pirate Klaus Stoertebecker
Remy Geerts of the Netherlands puts finishing touches on Owlglass, a German literary figure
The Sand World exhibit runs from 12 July to 25 August
